Lighting has been a subject of fascination for me from a very early age. When I was young I would construct lighting systems from old torches to light the puppet shows in my bedroom but, alas, the punters never came. As I grew older, and the lighting systems of the bands of the time grew more complicated, I became fascinated with the ability of one person to create the amazing moving effects of the lights (even though the lights themselves did not move in those days) and to control so much power at the touch of a button. From those humble beginnings I moved on to design the lighting for dramatic productions and concerts at my secondary school and from there I progressed to working in a local art centre where I would get the chance to work with some of the most innovative theatre companies of the time. Also being as it was a rather run-down and poorly funded place this time gave me the chance to overcome some of the most daunting technical challenges of my carrier and quickly learn some sharp lessons about live stage production.

After this period of learning the tricks of the trade I moved on to become a freelance lighting designer and for several years worked supplying design and technical services for bands, festivals, theatres, fashion shows, lighting companies, AV companies and corporate clients. In 2001 I was lured into full-time employment and took on the role of "Head of Lighting" for AVT Limited where I was responsible for designing the lighting for many international conferences, award ceremonies and corporate parties. Working from their London office in Canary Wharf I developed a close working relationship with the team at Canary Wharf Arts & Events and for many years provided lighting services for their "After Hours" concerts, Comedy Clubs and Summer Gala Concerts. I have now returned to freelance work and am interested to once again bring some of my early fascination with the elemental forces of lighting to a new and diverse range of events. Some of the productions I have recently been involved with providing lighting for include bands, fashion shows, conferences, corporate events, arts projects and street theatre, as well as the design and installation of fixed systems for nightclubs. Working within client budgets I can provide sound advice about the full range of lighting equipment currently available and the logistics and processes necessary to achieve your illumination aims. It is my belief that good lighting design should mix the ability to convey mood and emotion with simplicity and elegance whether it be for theatre, a concert, conference, night club or art installation.
